Technical Officials Development Pathway

The Role of a Technical Official

As in all sports, Technical Officials are the guardians of fair play. In badminton, it is the umpire, service judge, and line judge who ensure that every match is played fairly and that decisions are consistent for all players.

Badminton Ghana is committed to developing a pool of confident, knowledgeable, and certified Technical Officials to support our sport at the local, national, and international level.

There are opportunities for Technical Officials to expand their experiences significantly. We have officials at all levels. Most begin by officiating in Ghana, but with the right certification, Ghanaian Technical Officials can work across Africa and on continents around the world.

Please Note: Officiating at the local and national level in Ghana is currently a volunteer role. It is a chance to give back to the badminton community, develop leadership skills, travel internationally to offciate and gain valuable experience for higher certification.

Steps to Certification (Umpire Pathway)

Badminton Ghana offers a structured pathway to develop you from a beginner to a certified official. Follow the steps below to begin your journey.

Step 1: Take the Introductory Umpire Course

The first step is to complete the National Umpire Level 1 Course offered by Badminton Ghana. This course covers the Laws of Badminton, the basics of umpiring, and the duties of a service judge.

You are now ready to be evaluated for full certification.
