Athlete Talent Pathway

Ghana Badminton Athlete Talent Pathway

The Athlete Talent Pathways provide players, parents, and coaches with clear guidance on what is required at different ages to help athlete reach their full potential and achieve podium success.

These pathways are designed for performance-driven players who aspire to represent Ghana internationally and earn selection for national teams.

Each pathway aims to maximise an athlete’s potential by gradually exposing them to higher levels of competition. This ensures that when the time comes, players are physically and mentally ready to compete on the African and World stage.

This is a guide only and is not compulsory. It does not automatically guarantee team selection or national grading.

Talent Identification (Talent ID)

The Ghana Badminton talent identification programme is focused on discovering talented junior players between the ages of 8 and 13 and helping them realise their full potential through the Ghana Badminton Athlete Talent Pathway.

Badminton Ghana has identified three key components for the Talent ID process:

  1. Identify talent as early as possible through grassroots programmes (e.g., Shuttle Time Ghana and Ghana Primary Schools Badminton).

  2. Ensure the player follows the correct pathway to maximise their development.

  3. Place identified athletes with coaches who offer the best opportunity for progress.

We are looking for players with the following profile:

  • Players who love badminton and want to represent Ghana at African Championships and International Tournaments.

  • Dedicated to being the best they can be.

  • Demonstrate good badminton skills and coachability.

Badminton Ghana is currently developing a Talent Identification Toolkit – a skill-based programme designed to help individuals improve their technical ability through a series of progressive levels.

Players under the age of 15 are invited to coaching weekends held across various regions of Ghana, where the National Coach will be present. These weekends serve as official Talent Identification opportunities for National Squads. The U9 / U11 / U13 Nationals also form part of the Talent ID pathway.
