GHANA BADMINTON UNVEILS AMBITIOUS 2026 CALENDAR: A YEAR OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE, DEVELOPMENT, AND CONTINENTAL AMBITION

Accra, Ghana – January 8, 2026 – Ghana Badminton, the nation’s governing body for the sport, proudly announces its comprehensive and dynamic calendar of events for 2026, marking a landmark year focused on athlete development, technical excellence, and competitive prowess on the African and national stage. The calendar, themed around "Building Champions, Elevating the Game," underscores the federation's commitment to holistic growth from grassroots to elite performance.

The 2026 schedule is strategically packed with national training initiatives, crucial workshops, prestigious championships, and significant African continental events, positioning Ghana as a central hub for badminton development in West Africa.

A Foundation of Excellence: Training and Officiating

The year kicks off with an intensive National Training Camp in Borteyman, running from January 15th to February 7th. This extended camp is designed to sharpen the skills of the nation’s top shuttlers, ensuring they are in peak condition for the demanding competitive season ahead.

Complementing athlete development is a strong emphasis on building institutional capacity. A Medical & Communication Workshop on January 30th at the Accra Sports Stadium will equip team medical staff and communication personnel with advanced knowledge. Furthermore, the National Technical & Officiating Officials seminar on February 6th in Borteyman will standardize and enhance officiating quality nationwide. The Technical Officials Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held online on February 21st, will engage the officiating community in governance and forward planning.

The Pinnacle of Domestic Competition

The highlight of the domestic circuit is the All-Ghana Badminton Open Championships, scheduled for March 20-22 in the nation’s capital, Accra. This premier event is expected to attract the country’s finest talent, from established internationals to emerging juniors, battling for national supremacy and ranking points.

Continental Ambitions: Ghana Takes on Africa

Ghanaian shuttlers will set their sights on continental glory with participation in two major events in Gaborone, Botswana. The All Africa Men's & Women's Team Championships from February 9-12 will see Ghana’s national teams compete for the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup of Africa. This will be immediately followed by the All Africa Individual Championships from February 13-15, where players will vie for continental titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, seeking to qualify for LA 2028 and 2026 Youth Olympics and other global tournaments.

Innovation and Sustainability: Fundraising and Partnership

In a novel approach to sustainable sports funding, Ghana Badminton will host a Wine Tasting Partnership Fundraising Dinner on March 29th (venue to be confirmed). This sophisticated event aims to forge stronger partnerships with the corporate community and private sector, generating essential resources to support the federation’s expansive programs for the year and beyond.
