STRICT ADHERENCE TO SPORTS REGULATIONS 2023 (L.I. 2477)

STRICT ADHERENCE TO SPORTS REGULATIONS 2023 (L.I. 2477)

September 19, 2025

To: All Member Associations, Clubs, Players, and the General Public

Reference: L.I. 2477

This notice serves as a critical directive from Ghana Badminton, the National Governing Body for the sport, regarding the Sports Regulations, 2023 (L.I. 2477). This legislation mandates that only Ghana Badminton is authorized to grant written approval for the organization of badminton events in Ghana.

Please be advised that organizing or participating in any unapproved sporting event constitutes a criminal offence under Ghanaian law. Violators are subject to severe penalties, including substantial financial fines and imprisonment for a term of up to five (5) years.

Compliance with this law is mandatory. All members and the public must verify the official sanctioning of any event directly with Ghana Badminton to avoid these serious legal consequences.

Specific Warning on Unauthorized Entities:
It has come to our attention that an unauthorized group, identified as the Shuttle Club Association Ghana (SCAG), is being operated by individuals including Frank Boamah and Theophilus Mensah. This group also involves Camera Kwesi Obeng and Phillip George Kweku Baah, both of whom are currently serving a ban from all badminton-related activities until 2032.

This group's request for official recognition has been formally denied by the Ministry of Sport and Recreation. As clearly stated in their correspondence (Ref: attached), "Sections 3(1), 5, 26 and 27 of the Sports Regulations, 2023 (L.I. 2477)" are invoked, confirming that the Ministry "shall not register or license more than one national sports association for a particular sporting discipline." The Ministry has explicitly directed SCAG to contact Ghana Badminton for any matters related to the sport.

Available information indicates that these individuals, despite this official rejection, have solicited sponsorship from corporate and public institutions for an unauthorized event, resulting in financial commitments and subsequent demands for refunds since yesterday. This activity is a gross violation of the Sports Regulations, and they are been persecuted by law

Furthermore, these individuals attempted to register an entity named "Shuttle Club Association Ghana, LBG" with the Office of the Company Registry. This entity has been barred and removed from the official register by government action.

Directive:
Henceforth, all Associations, Clubs, and the general public are required to take note of this notification and ensure strict compliance. Organizing or participating in any unapproved event is illegal. Protect the integrity of the sport and yourselves by ensuring all activities are lawful. Regulations 3(1-5), 26-28, and 62(1) are in full force.
